Varsity Clinches Lead in Fifth Inning for Victory Over Madison Memorial
Sun Prairie Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the 5th and defeated Madison Memorial 12-5 on Thursday afternoon. The game was tied at five when Robbie Knorr singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and then the flood gates opened. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Carter Wombach, Benett Halbleib, and Knorr, a triple by Spencer Bartel, a groundout RBI by Josh Caron, a fielder's choice by Jacob Powley, an error on a ball put in play by Matt DePrey, and a double by Liam Moreno. Madison Memorial got things started in the second inning when Kyle Yu singled on a 1-0 count, that would plate two runs. After Madison Memorial scored one run in the top of the third, Sun Prairie answered with one of their own. Memorial scored when Kyle Jungers's sac fly scored one run for the Spartan. The Cardinals then answered when Caron singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
On the mound Caron got the start for the Cardinals. Josh went two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out four. Kole Kerhoff started for Memorial. He allowed five hits and five runs over four innings, striking out two. Matthew Michalowske and Luke Gromacki entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively.
Sun Prairie Cardinals Varsity tallied 12 hits in the game. Caron, Carson Shepard, Knorr, and Wombach all collecting multiple hits for Sun Prairie. Caron led the Cardinals going 3 for 4. Click to see the complete box score.
